Ruidoso Calendar — HUBBARD MUSEUM RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM
The Hubbard Museum of the American West
The Hubbard Museum of the American West’s mission is to collect, preserve and interpret the political, social, business, cultural, and environmental history of the American West from the period of human habitation to the present day, with a special emphasis on local and regional arts, history and Western culture. The Hubbard Museum programming, exhibits, and special events will empower audiences to engage in a dialogue about the legacy of the American West and its continuing impact on American society.
A robust events calendar fills the halls of this great museum. Photography, Art, History and Cultural exhibits and presentations seem to regularly stream out from this facility. And the facility itself is well done and designed to present the Old West in its truest form. In 2000, The Hubbard Museum became the first New Mexico Museum accepted into prestigious Smithsonian Affiliate Program and Smithsonian traveling exhibits routinely are on display in the museum and the subject of special presentations.
R.D. and Joan Dale Hubbard founded the Hubbard Museum of the American West in 1992, and then presented it to the City of Ruidoso Downs in 2005. It has grown from its original incredible collection of Anne C. Stradling’s Museum of the Horse to being a first class historic Western museum. The famous Stradling collection includes bits, spurs, bridles and saddles from around the West and the world. It includes an impressive collection of carriages, wagons and horse drawn vehicles spanning past centuries.
Make sure you consider the plethora of events sponsored by The Hubbard Museum of the American West on your nest trip to Ruidoso and Ruidoso Downs. Contact the museum at (575) 378-4142 for more information.
