Ruidoso Festival of Lights
Traditions involving light exist around the world during the dark solstice months of November and December. In the mountain resort community of Ruidoso, New Mexico, the Ruidoso Valley Festival of Light celebrates the triumph of light over darkness with more events than ever before inviting the Ruidoso community at large and visitors from afar to bask in its glorious seasonal glow. The Festival runs from late November through December every year featuring the luminous beauty of a zillion lights sparkling right through the New Years holiday.
The Festival kicks off Thanksgiving Day with the start of a juried lighting competition among businesses and homeowners. Participants illuminate the exterior of their homes and businesses, filling the Ruidoso Valley with a profusion of glittering white light. The juried lighting competition brings out the creativity of Ruidoso citizens and business owners and will provide Ruidoso visitors with a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the Village’s decorative spirit.
More lighting fun for the whole community continues with Ruidoso’s traditional Christmas in the Park tree featuring holiday music, caroling, food and beverage, and of course, a visit from Santa. The FOL hosts an electric light parade as well with floats packed with festive folks and seasonal decorations. The Village offers a winter wonderland, a sparkling mountain hideaway during The Annual Ruidoso Valley Festival of Lights.
